Amidst the sleek lines of a pointed “B,” there lies a secret message within the Bluetooth logo, a cryptic narrative known only to a select few. This clandestine story weaves together a Scandinavian king and, interestingly enough, a prominent role for beer. Surprisingly, the name itself was intended as only a temporary solution.

Bluetooth, an integral part of modern existence, seamlessly intertwines various electronic devices through its wireless transmission standards, a phenomenon persisting for over two decades. Yet, veiled within its emblematic logo lay a covert message, a revelation known to only a handful.

Unveiling the Tale Behind the Bluetooth Logo

What seems like a pointed “B” is actually two ancient Nordic runes, representing ‘H’ and ‘B.’ These initials stand for Harald Gormsson, a Danish king famed for uniting Norway and Denmark, as per reports by Creative Bloq citing France 24.

Harald Gormsson became the moniker chosen by developers Sven Mattisson and Jim Kardach for this wireless standard, signifying Bluetooth’s essence—a harmonious amalgamation of devices. But why ‘Bluetooth’ in the first place? This epithet traces back to Gormsson, allegedly stemming from a decayed tooth or a fondness for blueberries. And yes, for those speculating about alcohol’s involvement, your hunch is accurate. “We had a couple of beers, and Jim has a fascination with history. That’s when we started discussing the Vikings,” Mattisson admitted.

A Temporary Solution That Became Enduring

Initially, they didn’t intend Bluetooth as a lasting title for the wireless standard, matching its quirky name’s odd story. It was to serve merely as an interim solution until a more fitting name surfaced. However, fate had different plans. Since 1998, Bluetooth has crafted an unparalleled success story. It has streamlined technology for millions worldwide, enduring to this day.
