Reina Significance in Tekken 8’s Storyline

Reina’s character was conceived during the Tekken 7 campaign development a decade ago, who plays a pivotal role in Tekken 8’s storyline,” says Kohei Ikeda, the director of Tekken 8. “Despite her elegant and charming appearance, she exudes a charismatic sense of evil, reflecting the duality of her character both in personality and fighting style.”

Reina Fighting Style: A Fusion of Taido Mastery

Reina employs an acrobatic fighting style based on Taido, a Japanese martial art aimed at surpassing the limitations of karate. This style features rapid footwork and a combination of body movements seamlessly integrated with punches, kicks, and other techniques. Reina’s unique moves include the Sentai, a special technique for swiftly closing distances and launching assaults, and the Unsoku, enabling powerful attacks with agile footwork. Described by Bandai Namco as swift and aggressive, her combat style sets her apart.

Unique Techniques and an Enigmatic Skillset

Intriguingly, Reina possesses knowledge of techniques such as Wind God Fist and Spinning Demon, characteristic of the Mishima style, and even incorporates moves once used by the late Heihachi. The origins of her acquired skills remain undisclosed. Bandai Namco notes that Reina’s offensive capabilities near walls are among the most potent in the game. Collaborating with Tetsuji Nakano, a four-time Taido World Championship winner, the development team crafted Reina’s Taido techniques. Nakano’s expertise extends beyond Taido to various martial arts disciplines.
