Lenovo and the Institute of Technological Research (IPT) have joined forces to develop a modified operating system based on the Linux platform. Named “Lux,” Lenovo Lux stands out for its inclusion of two nearly extinct indigenous languages and various accessibility features for users.

According to reports, the system is compatible with over 13 models of notebooks and laptops from the Chinese brand and can be found in models like the Lenovo AMD Ryzen 5-7520U (82X5S00100), for instance. With a focus on inclusion, Lux fully supports the Nheengatu and Kaingang languages—these languages are also available on Motorola smartphones.

The new system has adopted the best practices from the Debian platform distribution, including features not yet available in other Linux distributions,” explains Leandro Avanço, the technical manager of the Internet of Things and Embedded Systems Section at IPT.

Below is a glimpse of the software interface:

Lenovo Lux was launched at the end of 2022 and has since gained more users, benefiting those seeking the advantages of Linux paired with extra benefits thanks to the partnership with IPT.

Key features of Lenovo Lux include:

  • Easy access to software and driver updates;
  • Secure boot protection against viruses and malware;
  • Enhanced resource management optimization.

This collaboration between Lenovo and IPT underscores the commitment to preserving endangered languages and enhancing accessibility through technology.
