X (formerly Twitter) has started introducing the feature of voice and video calls in the app, enhancing its competitiveness with rival social networks like Instagram and WhatsApp. This new feature is available to Premium plan subscribers, which offers extra benefits such as the ability to edit posts and fewer advertisements.
While X hasn’t officially announced its launch, the company seemed to hint at it with a cryptic post asking, ‘Ready for it…?’ shortly before it started appearing. According to reports, Elon Musk’s app’s calling function appears to be rolling out first for the iOS operating system, with no predicted availability date for Android. In a message sent to subscribers, the platform celebrates the new functionalities by stating, “Voice and video calls are here!”

To use this feature, one must be a subscriber of the Premium plan and have the app updated to its latest version. Calls have been individually introduced in conversations within the Direct Message (DM) section. Then, select the user with whom you want to make the call — they must also use the paid option — and choose between voice or video.
It’s also necessary for calls to be enabled in the account’s privacy settings, as each profile can manually disable the feature by blocking calls from followers.
