In a new beta update released this Wednesday, WhatsApp has started to prepare for interoperability with other messengers. The supported messengers include Google Messages, Telegram, and others.
The novelty is present within the 24.2.10.72 build for iOS, and it is all part of the plan to meet the requirements of the European Union Digital Markets Act.

As a result, in addition to chatting with people who have WhatsApp, it will soon be possible to receive text messages from Google Messages. Additionally, users will be able to access Telegram chats through the WhatsApp platform.

This interoperability is something required by the European Union. The consideration of WhatsApp as a large-scale application that can monopolize some markets necessitates the implementation of such measures.

Therefore, the opening of the messenger is something that Meta must do in the coming months. An interesting detail is that WhatsApp ensures that its encryption will also cover messages from third-party apps.
For now, the novelty is still in the testing stage and has no scheduled release date. It is also unknown whether the feature will be exclusive to the European Union or if it will be distributed globally.
