In an announcement on the Meta website on March 4, Instagram revealed the launch of editable messages, akin to WhatsApp’s functionality.

Users can now edit messages within 15 minutes of sending them, simply by clicking on the message and selecting the “Edit” option from the drop-down menu.
To make changes, users need only click on the message and select “Edit” from the menu. Once edited, a label is added to notify the recipient of the modifications. It’s important to note that recipients may have already read the original message if notifications are enabled.
In addition to message editing, Instagram now allows users to pin up to three chats in their inbox, making it easier to keep important conversations at the forefront of their inbox.
Enhancements to Conversations
Further enhancing messaging capabilities, users can now save stickers and add them to a favorites list for convenient use in future chats. Instagram has also introduced new chat themes inspired by popular movies, such as “Dune 2” and “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” allowing users to personalize their conversations.
Director’s Statement
Adam Mosseri, director of Instagram, emphasized the significance of direct messages in the platform’s evolution. He stated, “More photos and videos are shared via DM each day than through Stories or in the Feed,” highlighting the importance of improving messaging features.
Significant Setting Adjustment
Among the notable updates is the ability to disable read receipts, allowing users to read messages without the sender being notified. This feature addresses privacy concerns and mirrors the functionality found in messaging platforms like WhatsApp.
Availability of Updates
The updates are now live and are being rolled out server-side, eliminating the need for users to manually update the app. While the rollout may be gradual, users can expect to access these new features soon.
