Since 2019, a US ban has barred Huawei from accessing technologies from American companies. In response, the Chinese tech giant has been striving for independence – and remarkably, they’ve achieved just that. Both the Kirin processor and a Chinese 5G modem are back on the market, a development that has set alarm bells ringing within the US government.

Huawei Unexpected Triumph Amidst the US Ban

Seemingly, the impact of the US ban on Huawei has dwindled. The company’s recent unveiling of the Mate 60 Pro marks a significant breakthrough. Suddenly, Huawei is capable of integrating its own Kirin processors and a 5G modem that are entirely devoid of US technologies. Collaborating with the Chinese semiconductor manufacturer, SMIC, made this feat possible. This breakthrough has drawn a concerned gaze from the US government, refocusing attention back on Huawei.

Deep Concerns within the US Government

After the chip development breakthrough in China, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo expressed deep concern, stating to Bloomberg, “This is deeply troubling.”Moreover, the U.S. government had already shown surprise at Huawei and SMIC’s technological success following the presentation of the Mate 60 Pro with its proprietary chip and 5G modem. Calls from the U.S. are growing louder, urging action not only against Huawei but also against SMIC.

Raimondo’s Stance and the Future Course

Raimondo refrains from confirming specific actions to be taken. The Commerce Secretary mentioned that investigations require time. Currently gathering all pertinent information, she stated, “We will do everything to protect the US” The exact implications of this statement remain undisclosed. However, it’s evident that the technological stride made by Huawei and SMIC caught the US government off guard.

Huawei Resurgence

For Huawei, the current scenario couldn’t be more promising. The demand for Mate 60 smartphones is soaring, leading to waiting periods of up to 90 days. Additionally, the Chinese tech giant is planning to release new top-tier smartphones and models for the mid-range segment, incorporating fresh processors. The impending response of the US administration remains a compelling narrative to observe.
