Unveiling Echoes of the Fallen: A Journey into Mystery
“Amidst the twilight descending upon Valisthea, mysterious dark crystals have surfaced within the black market,” reads the official synopsis of Echoes of the Fallen. “Could they hail from a long-hidden Mother Crystal, emerging from the shadows at this juncture? Clive and his allies embark on a quest for answers, unveiling enigmatic traffickers along their path. Their pursuit leads them to the Tower of Sages, an ancient, imperial structure concealing chilling secrets within its walls…”
To initiate the mission igniting the Echoes of the Fallen narrative, players must have progressed in the main storyline sufficiently to journey to Origin from the World Map in the main menu and completed the side quests “A Father’s Promise” and “My Treasure.” As a bonus, this expansion introduces the ‘Mortal Blade,’ a hilt reminiscent of the famed sword wielded by Cloud Strife, and a musical score: ‘Away (1987),’ designed to bring life to their abode through the magical Orchestrian.
Square Enix emphasizes that the original blueprint for Final Fantasy XVI did not include expansions. However, midway through development, a collective decision surfaced, deeming it a worthy pursuit to delve deeper into pivotal elements such as Sagespire and the Eikon Leviathan. Nevertheless, the company asserts that the ultimate catalyst for creating additional content was the resounding demand from the player base. Further specifics regarding ‘The Rising Tide’ expansion will unfold in due course.
