Developers working on Apple platforms will have an interesting new feature. As announced by Apple during this year’s WWDC, professionals will now have access to performance metrics for push notifications sent by their applications. During the event, the company stated:
“The Push Notifications Console now includes metrics for notifications sent in production through the Apple Push Notification Service (APNs). With the intuitive console interface, you will have an aggregated view of delivery status and insights into various notification statistics, including detailed breakdowns based on push type and priority.”
The company also explained some possible reasons why a push notification may not be delivered to the user and may be discarded. For those who may not know, push notifications are those that appear as pop-up windows within the smartphone’s system.
One of the reasons could be that the user has disabled this type of notification through the device’s software settings. Similarly, the token may not be active due to the removal of the app or changes made to it.
The third possible reason for the non-delivery of a push notification is that it may have expired. In this regard, the developer has the freedom to change and adjust this type of detail for future notifications. Furthermore, the company has provided links for each of these situations:
- Requesting permission for push notifications
- Registering the app with APNs
- Expired notification
