“Amazon” Tests a Perplexing Product Evaluation System

E-commerce giant “Amazon” has begun testing a new product evaluation system that may seem quite perplexing, even misleading, as it does not provide direct information on how many buyers like a specific product. When looking at product reviews on Amazon, it’s customary to see five stars, which are more or less filled depending on customer satisfaction. However, now “Amazon” customers in certain countries see a somewhat different representation of product evaluation – a single yellow star with the average rating and the total number of reviews.

An Unconventional Approach to Product Ratings

Amazon India: At first glance, this system appears rather confusing and does not clearly indicate whether the product is generally considered good or bad. For example, it is not immediately evident how many buyers have given the respective number of stars. Such a system also gives sellers an opportunity to more easily deceive potential buyers, seeking dishonest ways to obtain 5 stars while reducing the weight of negative reviews.

Amazon Customer Experience and Future Prospects

Of course, customers have the option to obtain a detailed product evaluation by clicking on it. However, this again takes additional time, and in the case of cheaper goods, many are likely to purchase the product regardless. Currently, the new product evaluation display has been noticed in the “Amazon” India app as well as on the German website. For now, this feature is still being tested, but “Amazon” representatives note that this does not necessarily mean it will definitely be implemented.
