Lenovo used the start of IFA to showcase a laptop that can transform with voice commands. Called the Auto Twist AI PC, this computer uses artificial intelligence to control a motorized hinge that adjusts the display. With AI and your voice, the laptop can track your movements and rotate automatically.

The Auto Twist AI PC is a proof of concept from Lenovo, demonstrating its AI capabilities. Its design is inspired by old 2-in-1 laptops with hinges that rotated the screen over the keyboard. The company aims to create a computer that responds to voice commands both in software and hardware.
According to Lenovo, the Auto Twist AI PC tracks the user’s movements to ensure the screen is always optimally visible. This feature is especially useful during video calls, as it keeps the user centered in remote meetings. Similar tracking technology is used by the Echo Show and will be featured in Apple’s upcoming iPad-screened HomePod.
Regarding voice recognition, Lenovo stated that the Auto Twist AI PC responds to natural language commands. Users can switch modes by saying “laptop mode” or “tablet mode,” and shut down the computer by saying “close laptop.” Additionally, the lid will automatically close if the laptop is left unattended for a period.
Lenovo aims to bring this concept to other laptops.
Attendees at the demo noted that there is a slight delay after issuing a voice command. It takes a second or two for the system to process the command and activate the hinge, which then takes additional time to rotate and reach the desired position. On the plus side, the tracking feature allows users to move around, such as standing up or shifting from one side to another.
In an interview with The Verge, Lenovo mentioned that they are testing various concepts, though many may not make it to market. The Auto Twist AI PC’s core idea is face tracking, which Lenovo views as a potential advancement for integrated video conferencing with enhanced accessibility. The company plans to explore different applications of this technology for future devices.
“The Lenovo Auto Twist AI PC transforms user interaction with outstanding performance and features designed with the user in mind, establishing a new benchmark for smart devices.” the company said. As it is a concept, no details are available about its specifications or release date.
