Google has updated Chrome on desktop with a new feature that provides AI‑generated summaries of online stores. Shoppers in the United States can click an icon next to the address bar to see a pop‑up detailing a store’s reputation for product quality, customer service, pricing, and return policies. Google creates these summaries by analyzing reviews from partners such as Trustpilot, Bazaarvoice, Reputation.com, and ScamAdviser.

How AI‑generated summaries work

When a user visits a participating e‑commerce site, Chrome will highlight an icon to the left of the address field. Clicking the icon brings up a concise overview generated by Google’s AI. The system draws on data from review aggregators, including Bazaarvoice, Bizrate, Insights, Reseller Ratings, TurnTo, and Yotpo, among others. The AI evaluates factors like average star ratings, customer feedback on product quality, and return experiences to produce an easy‑to‑read store report in English.

Benefits for online shoppers

Online shoppers often struggle to compare store reputations across quality of service and pricing. Chrome’s AI summaries give a snapshot of strengths and weaknesses in a single view. Customers can quickly decide whether to trust a new retailer or proceed to checkout with confidence. The feature also highlights red flags from ScamAdviser data that may indicate potential fraud risks. By surfacing these insights, in‑browser shoppers do not have to switch tabs or read dozens of individual reviews to form an informed opinion.

Google’s response to rising browser competition

This update arrives at a time when new AI‑centric browsers are challenging Chrome’s dominance. Services like Perplexity’s Comet and The Browser Company’s Dia offer AI features that integrate search and browsing. Google is responding by building AI directly into Chrome. The company is also testing an AI agent that can take actions on behalf of the user and has added its Gemini assistant for Premium subscribers. These moves aim to strengthen Chrome as a platform for modern AI‑enhanced experiences.

Chrome as a modern shopping platform

Beyond simple browser updates, Google has invested heavily in shopping tools powered by AI. Customers can already use AI to search for products, receive personalized recommendations, and virtually try on clothing. At this year’s developer conference, Google announced AI‑powered price tracking and an agentic checkout system that can complete purchases with minimal clicks. The new store summaries extend this vision by helping shoppers evaluate entire retailers before making a decision.

When and where to find the feature

AI‑powered store summaries are now rolling out in Chrome on desktop in the United States and in English. Google has not provided a timeline for mobile browsers or support in other languages. Users should update Chrome on their Windows, Mac, or Linux machines to the latest version to see the shopping icon appear on supported retail sites.

Google’s new AI summaries for shopping represent a step toward a more transparent and efficient online buying experience. By integrating reliable customer feedback data directly into the browser, Google enables users to make smarter choices without leaving the page. As the browser market evolves with new AI challengers, Chrome’s emphasis on built‑in intelligence positions it as a leader in both search and shopping innovation.
