Roblox Creators Can Now Sell Real Merchandise Directly Inside Games

Roblox has announced that creators are now able to sell real-life items directly within their games. Right now, it is possible for creators to use Commerce APIs to put up shops in games where players can purchase things like toys, clothes, or accessories.  This means players can get both digital items for their avatars and physical products shipped to their homes, all without leaving the game.

This change gives creators a new way to make money. Before, they could only sell virtual hats or game passes. Now, they can offer real products too. Roblox tested this idea with a few brands last year and is now rolling it out to everyone in the U.S. who is 13 or older. The company plans to add more countries and partners soon.

How Selling Real Items Works on Roblox

Creators and brands can work with online stores like Shopify so that real things can show up and be bought inside their games. For example, if a player goes to a shop in a Roblox game and buys a real hoodie, they can also get the same hoodie for their game character to wear. This makes shopping feel like an extra thing to do when you play the game, and takes you more into the world of the game.

Popular beauty brand Fenty was one of the first ones to do this. They made a new Roblox game where players can get a new color of lip gloss called Grape Splash. After purchasing the real lip gloss, players receive a copy to use in the game.

Keeping Things Safe and Real

Roblox knows players want to trust what they buy. To help with this, they started the Approved Merchandiser Program, or AMP. Products with the AMP badge are official and come with a code for a free digital item. This badge tells players they are buying something real and not a copy.

Why This Matters for Creators

A number of creators have garnered positive results so far. Twin Atlas managed to sell real things in their games using these tools and made over $100,000 during that short period. Most of their revenue was from players buying things while in the game. It reveals that players have fun with the shopping aspect of the game.

This helps younger players get more involved in the gameplay. Users can visit virtual clothing shops with others, check out different outfits, and buy the actual products together. Roblox is sure that this combination is more entertaining than common online shopping sites.

What Roblox Plans to Do Next

Roblox seeks to improve the shopping experience for players in their games. They have started collaborating with more organizations to increase their range of products and features. The target is to let people from different societies access items in games and be creative with regard to their favorite brands.

This goes hand in hand with what is happening in the gaming world. Many platforms are now bringing virtual worlds into the world of real shopping. With the addition of Shopify and similar companies, buying items and gaming are now possible all in one place on Roblox. As the feature expands, Roblox will put more emphasis on protecting players. They have strict guidelines for the protection of younger individuals and to ensure no fraud when making purchases. To make shopping more enjoyable and safe, the AMP program and age limits have been introduced.
