Google just released an update to fix a big problem with the Pixel Watch. Some users noticed their watches counted too many steps, like getting credit for walking when they were sitting. The new update fixes this by going back to the old way of counting steps. This makes the watch more accurate for everyone.
If you have a Pixel Watch 1, 2, or 3, you will get the update soon. Google is sending it out slowly, so you might have to wait a few weeks. You will get a notification on your watch when it is ready.

What Caused the Step Counting Mess?
In March, Google tried to make the step counter better for people pushing strollers or using wheelchairs. But the change made the watch count steps wrong. People saw thousands of extra steps, even when they were not moving. Imagine your watch saying you climbed 10 flights of stairs while watching TV.
After many complaints, Google decided to switch back to the old step-counting system. They might try to fix the new system later, but for now, they want users to trust their step numbers again.
How to Get the Update on Your Pixel Watch
- Make sure your watch is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Charge your watch fully.
- Go to Settings > System > System Updates.
- Tap the screen a few times if the update does not show up right away.
The update might take time to reach everyone. Verizon users started getting it on April 21. Others will follow soon.
New Features for Older Pixel Watches
If you have a Pixel Watch 2 or older, this update brings cool new tools.
- Auto Bed-Time Mode: Your watch will silence notifications while you sleep.
- Menstrual Health Tracking: You can log periods and symptoms in the Fitbit app.
- Better Media Controls: Easier to play and pause music from your wrist.
The Pixel Watch 3 gets a safety feature called Loss of Pulse Detection. If your heart stops, the watch can call for help. This only works in the U.S. right now.

What’s Still Missing?
No Gemini AI Yet
Many hoped this update would add Gemini, Google’s new AI assistant. But Google is saving that for the Pixel Watch 4, which might come out later this year. Gemini will take the place of Google Assistant and do smarter stuff, such as responding more quickly to questions.
Bad News for Fitbit Users
If you own a Fitbit, you will be losing Google Assistant shortly. Google is not substituting it with Gemini, so your Fitbit won’t speak with you anymore. This transformation has already begun, upsetting some Fitbit enthusiasts.
