Elon Musk doesn’t want to miss the chance to launch competitors to some of the leading platforms, even though the platform now known as X is not in its best shape. The executive, who also owns companies like Tesla and SpaceX, now plans to target Google and Microsoft, specifically Gmail and Outlook.

Musk is considering launching a service similar to Google Mail, called Xmail, as he has confirmed in various posts on his formerly known Twitter account. The tycoon has even stated, “We need to rethink how messaging works, including email, in general.”

It seems that Elon Musk’s goal is for his email service to be a bit different from that of the Mountain View company. The tycoon has publicly stated to a publication that the so-called Xmail, as its fans call it, would be based on “an email address that feeds directly into a clean inbox, in the style of direct messages, abandoning the tangled mess of threads and disastrous formats” found in typical email platforms.

Of course, this platform would remain compatible with other email addresses but would eliminate additional features that, in some cases, are unnecessary, such as third-party applications.

Doubts About Xmail, Elon Musk’s Alternative to Gmail

There are still many details to be confirmed. Elon Musk has only shown support for ideas proposed by some X (formerly Twitter) users. It is unclear whether the supposed Xmail would be directly integrated into X or if it would be a separate platform. Additionally, it’s unknown whether it will be a free service or only available to those subscribed to a Premium plan on the current social network.

In any case, launching an email platform would be a step forward in Elon Musk’s plans to make X a one-stop social network. Currently, the platform allows sharing posts, videos, and articles. Direct messages now include call and video call functions. Also, for the past few weeks, users have been able to access Gork’s AI through the X app itself.

We’ll have to wait and see if this is just an idea from Elon Musk or if X is actually preparing to launch an email platform.
