WhatsApp’s new feature may seem silly, but you’ll probably use it more than its other features. Thanks to screenshots from the beta version, a new trick has been discovered to fill your chats with confetti. Yes, you read that right—a simple button to activate party mode in chats. Although it’s not fully available yet, it’s expected to be one of the most popular features in the app in the coming months.

The feature is simple but innovative for an app like WhatsApp. It works through message reactions. When party mode is available on all devices, you’ll just need to tap on one of the confetti-related emojis: the celebration face, the horn blowing confetti, or the confetti ball.
After reacting to a message with one of these emojis, a new animation will appear on the screen. What’s the animation? More confetti! The action will trigger a small explosion that drops confetti, and all members of a group can join in to create a fun, celebratory experience.
WhatsApp Party Mode Is Just Around the Corner
WhatsApp is developing the party mode to celebrate the end of the year, so it should be ready by December. Currently, it’s only available in the beta version, but it won’t be long before, by tapping one of the three confetti-related emojis, party mode will fill your screen and that of other group members.
At the moment, this is the only way to activate party mode, but there could be other methods in the future. For example, you might be able to send one of the three emojis in any conversation and tap on it to trigger the confetti. While this hasn’t been confirmed, it would be a great addition to avoid always relying on reactions.
Although this feature is designed to liven up end-of-year celebrations, it’s likely that party mode will stay in the app permanently. It wouldn’t make sense to launch something like this and then remove it after the new year.
So far, party mode has only been seen on Android phones, but it’s expected that WhatsApp for iOS will also include it when the feature is available globally. For now, regardless of which phone you have, you’ll need to wait a few more days until the company rolls it out globally and in a stable version.
