Almost all of the major AI companies have already introduced new offerings to take the technology to the next level. Google plans to announce something by the end of the year, and Anthropic recently revealed its new ability to interact with digital interfaces. Now, it’s OpenAI’s turn. According to Bloomberg, Sam Altman’s company is preparing a new model that aims to revolutionize the AI market.

This is not surprising, as the new tool will have the ability to interact with digital interfaces. While the company’s models have made significant progress in processing text and images, they have struggled with handling real-world scenarios. This is exactly where OpenAI plans to focus with its new agent.

Internally, it is called “Operator,” and its goal is to interact with computers and perform a wide range of tasks. This AI tool will go beyond simply answering questions or analyzing images; it will be able to handle interfaces and carry out entire processes. In other words, it will function as a sort of independent operating system.

According to the source, OpenAI is preparing to launch a preliminary version for researchers, with a later release for developers. The first steps of Operator—though the name may change—are expected to be seen by January 2025, allowing us to discover its true capabilities.

Unfortunately, it seems that end-user access is still a long way off. While the tool is extremely interesting, its use and learning curve may be too complex for average users—at least until a final, commercial version is released.

OpenAI is paving the way for the true AI revolution.

If you think what ChatGPT, Gemini Live, or Sora can do is mind-blowing, wait until you see what the new tools from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic will be able to achieve. When they are released, image processing, text creation, and conversational AI may take a back seat, as artificial intelligence will become nearly self-sufficient.

A language model capable of controlling computer and hardware interfaces opens up endless possibilities. Tasks that once required human intervention could become fully autonomous, leaving industries in awe.

It’s still early to fully understand the capabilities of OpenAI’s “Operator,” but it’s already possible to configure the tool to take control of your PC and perform complex tasks, such as opening apps, modifying settings, and conducting searches.

Here’s a vague and futuristic example: imagine you have a virus on your computer that you want to remove. With this new AI, you wouldn’t need to open ChatGPT, follow its steps, and act manually. Instead, you could simply ask the model to fix the issue, and it would start taking actions on your computer to remove the virus independently.

If this capability is applied to the professional world, it could revolutionize industries like research and development. And, who knows, it might even start to feel like a scene from Blade Runner.
