The rumors about the iPhone 17 keep coming, and expectations for its specifications and features are rising. It has been said for a while that the phones Apple will release in 2025 will be the biggest upgrade compared to recent models, including the newly launched iPhone 16.

This time, the focus is on the screen of the standard and Slim iPhone 17, as reported by the Korean portal ET News. The report states that Apple is finally planning to introduce ProMotion, the adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, on both devices.
If this happens, the non-Pro versions of the iPhone 17 will gain the most notable feature from the Pro and Pro Max models, which has been available for a few years. It’s important to remember that Apple introduced ProMotion in 2021 with the iPhone 13 Pro, and it has been exclusive to the premium models since then.
Until the iPhone 16, the base and Plus models have been limited to a 60 Hz refresh rate. This decision has drawn strong criticism towards Apple, especially since 120 Hz is no longer a high-end feature and is now available on Android phones for just over 200 euros.
According to a report from South Korea, Apple plans to introduce LTPO panels in all four versions of the iPhone 17. Currently, these panels are only used in the Pro and Pro Max models. This suggests that the screens could be similar across the entire range, allowing for wider availability of ProMotion and other benefits.
All iPhone 17 models would be equipped with ProMotion.
This isn’t the first time there has been talk of ProMotion being available on non-Pro iPhones, starting with the 2025 models. In April 2023, analyst Ross Young reported that Apple’s plan includes adopting LTPO panels for all four versions of the iPhone 17. This change would allow the adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz to be standard across the entire lineup.
According to ET News, Samsung Display will produce screens for all four iPhone 17 models, while LG Display will provide screens for the Slim and Pro variants. As always, with rumors about unannounced Apple products, this information should be taken with caution. However, if this change happens, Apple will finally meet one of the most important demands from the public in recent years.
Additionally, if Apple truly plans to eliminate the iPhone Plus and replace it with an ultra-thin model, keeping a 60 Hz refresh rate would make even less sense. There’s speculation that the iPhone 17 Slim—also referred to as the Air in some leaks—could be priced higher than the current Pro Max. If that’s the case, not including a feature like ProMotion would be almost unacceptable. Furthermore, limiting the standard version of this enhancement while offering it on the other three models wouldn’t be a wise decision either.
We’ll have to wait and see if this is confirmed, but patience is necessary. The iPhone 17 won’t be unveiled until September 2025, so there’s plenty of time for more rumors and leaks about its specifications and features to emerge.
