Copilot represents Microsoft’s strong focus on integrating artificial intelligence into its software, hardware products, and services. However, this could change soon, as there are rumors that the company may adopt Apple’s approach to rename its AI features.

According to Windows Central, Microsoft might rename Copilot to Windows Intelligence. This idea is based on references to this name found in the latest builds of Windows 11.

The references to Windows Intelligence were found in an ADML file containing instructions for managing operating system privacy permissions. One of the fragments states, “Let Apps Access Windows Intelligence,” meaning “Allow applications to access Windows Intelligence.”

This has led to speculation that Microsoft may be considering renaming its current suite of AI tools, including Copilot, to Windows Intelligence. However, there is no official confirmation yet, and the company in Redmond has not made any public statements on the issue.

Could Windows Intelligence be the successor to Microsoft Copilot?

The situation regarding the potential renaming of Microsoft Copilot to Windows Intelligence has indeed sparked significant interest, particularly due to the apparent parallels with Apple Intelligence. However, it is essential to note that references to Windows Intelligence are not a novel occurrence within Windows 11; Microsoft has utilized this term since prior to Apple’s announcement of its AI suite for iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

Since at least 2022, users of Windows 11 have encountered mentions of Windows Intelligence in various security updates for the operating system. Notably, these updates lack detailed descriptions regarding their content, and available information online remains scarce. This absence of clarity raises questions about the scope and implications of the term within the context of Microsoft’s broader AI strategy. Consequently, while speculation about the rebranding persists, a comprehensive understanding of Windows Intelligence and its intended functionality requires further investigation and official clarification from Microsoft.

A quick search on the official Microsoft forums reveals many queries about what Windows Intelligence updates entail. However, formal answers are either scarce or nonexistent. In some cases, it is suggested that this name could refer to changes made to Windows Security components and Windows Defender, but there is no definitive confirmation on this.

Given this uncertainty, it’s difficult to conclude that Microsoft is about to rebrand Copilot as Windows Intelligence. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if they did. After all, Microsoft’s AI chatbot started as Bing Chat before evolving into Copilot. That name has since expanded to encompass a broader range of Windows AI features and other services the company provides, both for consumers and businesses, making it somewhat confusing to differentiate them.

Will Windows Intelligence become the new name for Microsoft Copilot? For now, it’s impossible to say for sure. It’s worth noting that just weeks ago, the company gave a significant update to the chatbot, adding voice and vision tools. We will continue to monitor any developments on this front.
