With the integration of AI, Google Maps now includes Gemini, allowing you to ask questions, summarize reviews, and learn more about your searches within the app. You can now use this artificial intelligence to look for specific plans or inquire about a restaurant’s services. These are just a few examples of what you will be able to do.
“I’m in Madrid with some friends, and I’d like to take them on a tour of the city’s most popular landmarks.” Gemini will respond with a list of several stops and suggest an efficient route that includes the most touristy areas.
“I’m traveling with my partner to Vienna, and I need a restaurant for a romantic dinner.” Gemini will understand the context, search for the best date spots, and compare user reviews to help you find a great option. Once you find a place that fits your needs, you can ask the AI if it has a disabled bathroom, non-alcoholic cocktails, or a terrace. Gemini will quickly check the venue’s reviews and amenities to provide you with the answers you’re looking for.
This is definitely a great addition to Google Maps for searching for information, finding the right places, and asking the AI to summarize reviews to help you choose the best dish.
However, Google has announced that this rollout will start this week in the United States. This means that Europe and the rest of the world will have to wait to use Gemini in Google Maps.

Here’s a list of things you’ll be able to do and see in Google Maps when you update the app in the coming days.
From now on, when you have a route set up on Google Maps, you can tap the “Add stop” button to see all the points of interest along your way. This feature is useful for discovering restaurants and planning stops, as well as showing you nearby monuments and popular places.
Google Maps has also significantly improved the GPS navigation interface. You can now see road signs, lanes, and pedestrian crossings on the screen. Additionally, they’ve integrated a system that tells you which lane to stay in to avoid missing an exit or to help you merge onto another road.
On top of that, you can receive alerts about road conditions and weather. In the app, you can now indicate if there is standing water, dangerous puddles, or snowy areas. You can also view this information on your routes if reported by other users.

As mentioned earlier, all of these features will be available in your Google Maps app soon. According to the company, this week you’ll be able to access new weather alerts, directions to points of interest along your route, and improvements to GPS navigation. Other details, like new subway networks, are expected to arrive starting next month.
