After a slight decline in the second quarter, Tesla was able to build on its previous successes in the third quarter. The production and delivery figures show a significant improvement compared to the previous quarter, but they do not fully meet the expectations of some analysts.

In the third quarter, Tesla produced 469,796 vehicles and delivered 462,890 to customers. This represents a 14.3 percent increase in production and a 4.3 percent increase in deliveries compared to the previous quarter.
The increase in production is a positive sign for Tesla, especially after the company produced just under 410,000 vehicles in the second quarter. Additionally, the gap between production and deliveries that was seen in the first half of 2024 now seems to have balanced out.
Much of the growth can be credited to the Model 3 and Model Y. In the third quarter, 443,668 units of these two models were produced, and 439,975 were delivered.
Challenges and Market Dynamics
Despite the overall positive trend, delivery figures did not meet some analysts’ expectations. Reports from Reuters indicate that experts on Wall Street had anticipated an average increase in deliveries of eight percent. As a result, the actual increase of 4.3 percent was lower than expected.
Improved incentives and attractive financing plans in the Chinese market were mentioned as possible reasons for the expected growth. However, it is unclear from Tesla’s brief statement whether these factors were actually responsible for the increase.
On the other hand, the outlook is less favorable in other areas: Tesla has experienced a slight decline in energy storage products. In the third quarter, 6.9 GWh of storage capacity was installed, down from 9.4 GWh in the previous quarter.
