Larian CEO Sven Vincke worried that Baldur’s Gate 3 might not be long enough. He says a lot of content and locations were cut from the game.

The game is big, but Vincke thinks it could have been even bigger. He mentions that some exciting content, like a second Moonrise Tower, was removed.
“The Moonrise Tower used to be two towers. For a long time, there were actually ruins of the second tower. The reason we removed the extra tower was purely production: there were just too many stakes in the game, and so we had to cut that out. You’d be surprised to know that we actually had a lot more regions that we planned to create — I was afraid at first that the game would be too short, but as you know, I’ve always been bad at estimating the length of our games”
Vincke.
Other reports match Vincke’s comments. For instance, the game once planned to include the Candlekeep library and the Red Military College, where players could recruit Will.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s lead writer Adam Smith explains:
“People will check the data that is in the game, but there is a reason why we did not publish it ourselves. We felt they were distracting. Adding more could make it worse”
The missing second Moonrise Tower might explain some timeline issues. The emperor’s memories say he visited the Tower long ago, but records say it’s a newer building.
Vincke also talked about his favorite games. He praised Ultima 7, which inspired much of Larian’s work. He avoids playing it now to preserve his memories but also mentioned Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity.
