The iPhone 16 hasn’t been officially announced yet, but we’re already seeing a lot of rumors about the iPhone 17. The upcoming smartphones from Apple, expected to be released in 2025, promise significant advancements in design and performance, along with some new features and welcome changes.

All models are likely to have a new screen, be more durable and thinner, and receive a major upgrade in the photography department. Additionally, Apple might remove the limitation of some Pro model features, making them available in the base versions as well.
Here are the top new features and everything we know about the iPhone 17:
New Design and a “Slim” Version
It’s unclear how many versions of the iPhone 17 we’ll see this year. The company will likely continue with the Pro and Pro Max versions, which typically feature a more refined design, a more comprehensive camera setup, and improved specs in areas like display and performance. However, rumors suggest that Apple will discontinue the iPhone 17 Plus and introduce a new 6.3-inch display size for the base model.
Leaks have also revealed that Apple is working on an “iPhone 17 Slim” — though it most likely won’t be called that. This model would stand out for having a much thinner design than the current models, almost as thin as the new iPad Pro. It would also have a narrower Dynamic Island. It is not yet clear if all iPhone 17 models will have this thinner design or if it will be a specific variant, possibly replacing the Plus version.
The Screen of the iPhone 17
So, how many iPhone 17 models will we see? According to early rumors, there will be a 6.3-inch base version and two Pro versions: a 6.3-inch Pro and a 6.9-inch Pro Max. This increase in screen size would not significantly affect the overall size of the device, as all models are expected to have thinner frames. These new sizes and the narrower bezels are anticipated to be among the main new features of the iPhone 17.
A significant change coming to the iPhone 17 display is ProMotion technology. Apple could finally include it in the base versions, allowing all models to have a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. This would also enable the “non-Pro” variants to have the always-on display, which is currently exclusive to the Pro versions.
The screens of these models would also be more resistant than the current ones. A recent rumor claims that Apple is developing a more robust coating than the Ceramic Shield used by the iPhone 15 and expected to be used in the iPhone 16. This new coating will most likely be included in the iPhone 17 models.
Camera Improvements
While there aren’t many details on this front, all iPhone 17 models are expected to feature 24-megapixel front cameras, a significant upgrade from the 12-megapixel cameras on current models. The company is expected to maintain the same rear camera setup across all models.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max could come with a 48-megapixel main lens, an ultra-wide-angle camera, and a telephoto lens with an optical zoom of up to 5x. This configuration is expected to be the same for the iPhone 17 Pro. The base iPhone 17 would have a 48-megapixel main sensor and an ultra-wide-angle camera, likely with the same resolution.
iPhone 17: Processors and RAM
Apple is working with TSMC to develop a processor with a 2-nanometer architecture, making it much more efficient and powerful than current models. However, mass production of these processors is not expected until late 2025, so they might not be ready in time for the iPhone 17.
Therefore, future iPhone models are expected to feature an A19 chip (A19 Pro in Pro variants) with an improved 3-nanometer process to provide more power than current processors. Apple might also increase the RAM in the iPhone 17 Pro from 8 GB to 12 GB, while the base iPhone 17 would have 8 GB of RAM.

When Will the iPhone 17 Be Launched and How Much Will It Cost?
The iPhone 17 is expected to be announced in September 2025, the month when Apple usually presents its new smartphones. Since it is still more than a year away, it is too early to know the prices of these devices.
Moreover, both the presentation date and the price could vary depending on factors such as the availability of parts or possible delays in the supply chain.
