Insider @OreXda argues that the next Google SoC designed for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro is based on the Exynos 2400, although it comes with different specifications. Tensor G3 likely had its framework based on the Exynos 2300. The Exynos 2400 features a 10-core CPU cluster, while a leak from Geekbench 5 suggests that Tensor G4 will have only 8 cores.

Additionally, the GPUs are also different: the Exynos 2400 uses an Xclipse 940 graphics processor based on AMD’s RDNA3 architecture, while Tensor G4 uses the ARM Immortalis-G715, similar to that of Tensor G3.

However, there is a possibility that Tensor G4 is a semi-custom SoC, combining CPU and GPU design elements from ARM. Probably when the insider mentioned that Tensor G4 is based on the Exynos 2400, they were referring to the manufacturing and packaging technologies introduced by Samsung, such as the 4LPP+ process and Fan-out Wafer Level Packaging (FOWLP), which can enhance performance and thermal efficiency.

Still, until Google switches to TSMC as a foundry partner, which is not expected before Tensor G5 in 2025, the Pixel 9 or Pixel 9 Pro should not pose a major threat in terms of raw performance. Google may excel in other areas, such as AI features and enhanced cameras, while it may lag slightly in terms of performance compared to competitors in single-thread and multi-thread workloads.
