Happy New Year, trainers! What, too late? Not at all! In Pokémon Go, the Lunar New Year event starts on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. and ends on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. (local time). For the first time, you can catch the Serene Pokémon Sen-Long, and with a bit of luck, you can encounter the Pokémon in its shiny form from the beginning of the event!
Yes, you read that right: Shiny Sen-Long is also making its debut!
Event Bonuses
- When trading Pokémon, you have a higher chance of receiving a Lucky Pokémon.
- The chance of becoming Lucky Friends is increased.
- For catching with a nice, great, or excellent throw, you’ll receive additional candies.
- The chance of XL candies is increased when catching a Pokémon with a nice, great, or excellent throw (Trainers level 31 and above).
Wild Pokémon
The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild during the event:
- Magikarp (+), Dratini (+), and Bagon (+)
- Fennekin (+), Axew (+), and Helioptile (+)

Paid Limited Research
For $2.49, you can purchase the ticket to a Limited Research in the Pokémon Go in-game shop. Great rewards await you for completing all tasks! Keep in mind that you must complete all tasks by Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. (local time) and claim the rewards. Otherwise, you’ll lose all in-game goodies!
If you want to share the fun with your friends, you can buy the Limited Research as a gift for your friends. Keep in mind that in Pokémon Go, you must have reached at least the Good Friends level to be able to gift the ticket.

Global Challenge: Unleashed Dragons
During the Lunar New Year Event 2024, a Global Challenge takes place, in which all trainers worldwide can participate. Together, you must land a total of one billion good throws. In Pokémon Go, you can always check the progress.
If enough trainers work together, bonuses will be unlocked until the end of the event. This includes Wild Pokémon, Pokémon in Raid Battles, and Special Attacks for specific Pokémon. Information on these will be released only once the goal is achieved – so get moving, trainers!
Global Challenge – Reward: Exclusive Attacks
You have successfully completed the Global Challenge, trainers! Celebrate your success with special attacks for the following Pokémon:
Flygon
Evolve Trapinch into Vibrava and Vibrava into Flygon during the event for the Pokémon to learn the charged attack “Earth Power” of the Ground type!
Salamence
Evolve Bagon into Shelgon and Shelgon into Salamence during the event for the Pokémon to learn the charged attack “Outrage” of the Dragon type.
Altaria
Evolve Swablu into Altaria during the event for the Pokémon to learn the charged attack “Moonblast” of the Fairy type.
Haxorus
Evolve Axew into Fraxure and Fraxure into Haxorus during the event for the Pokémon to learn the charged attack “Outrage” of the Dragon type.
