Nothing isn’t a company known for frequent releases. Up until now, their strategy has been to bet on one model per year, although the Nothing Phone (2) raised a question: had they definitively abandoned the realm of budget smartphones? With a Phone (2)  at $649 euros ($320 more than the Phone (1)), access to the brand became somewhat complicated. Introducing the Nothing Phone (2a), the new budget model that has been leaking for some time and is set to land in 2024, of which the complete rear design has been leaked.

When it comes to reliable leaks, OnLeaks is the name that springs to mind. In collaboration with Smartprix, they have revealed what they claim to be the design of the Phone (2a). This phone, on its rear side, maintains Nothing’s philosophy: transparent design.

Although it may seem like we’re looking at the phone’s components, we’re actually seeing an ornamental plate designed by Nothing for aesthetic purposes. The wireless charging coil is missing, and there aren’t many clues as to how the hardware elements are distributed around the motherboard.

The most significant loss is the Glyph interface, the LED system that stands out in the brand’s phones. A small sacrifice in exchange for minimizing the phone’s costs and offering it at a more competitive price.

Nothing’s aim would be to compete against Xiaomi and Google, attempting to lead in the mid-range market from which they strayed in their second release. There is currently no news regarding the possible price of this phone, but it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume it would hover around $300.

The official presentation of the Phone (2a) is scheduled for February 27th at the MWC, so there are just over 20 days left to finally discover the economic proposal from Carl Pei’s new brand.
