Key Points to Note

  • Reports from a Huawei insider on Weibo suggest that the company will host a conference in February to launch a new small foldable phone.
  • While the insider does not specify the form factor, it is expected that the device will be compact and foldable, potentially similar to a flip phone.

According to IThome, which received information from Weibo, the mysterious device will be positioned in the mid-range territory, akin to Huawei’s Nova series.

The insider did not specify if Huawei’s upcoming foldable will be of the Fold or Flip type. However, given the buzz about it being a “small” foldable, it’s safe to assume that it’s a flip phone. Moreover, it seems that this upcoming device will be limited to China.

Huawei’s Foldable Lineup

Huawei has a trio of foldable smartphone lines in the market. The Huawei Mate X and Mate Xs are the flagship models. The X models unfold like a book, while the Xs variants fold outwards.

Meanwhile, the Huawei Pocket series is a flip-style smartphone similar to the Galaxy Z Flip lineup. Therefore, Huawei’s next foldable will likely belong to this series.

The Huawei Pocket S debuted in late 2022 as the latest standard in the market. However, Huawei isn’t making these launches an annual ritual, unlike the rest of the Android OEMs.

While there’s still much we don’t know about this, the ongoing development is quite exciting. We hope it marks a solid return to form for Huawei.
