A Leap into Modern Gaming

Scheduled for release on February 14th, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Aspyr, the development studio, delved into the specifics of the improvements in a recent post on the PlayStation Blog.

Preserving Timeless Gameplay

Chris Bashaar, the Product Director at Aspyr, emphasized the studio’s commitment to preserving the timeless gameplay of Tomb Raider I, II, and III. By utilizing the original source code, every jump, secret, enemy, and puzzle has been meticulously retained as envisioned by the original team.

A Blend of Old and New Controls

Bashaar explained how the focus was not just on preservation but also on surprising and satisfying fans. Players will now have the option to use either the original PlayStation 1 controls. Additionally, players can choose modernized controls inspired by the Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld eras of Tomb Raider.

Boss Battles Get an Upgrade

In a bid to make boss encounters more balanced, a new health bar has been introduced for bosses, allowing players to devise better strategies. Life and ammunition items have transitioned from 2D to 3D, with over 200 trophies available for collection on PlayStation platforms.

Unveiling Photographic Adventures and More

Beyond these improvements, players can expect a robust photo mode. Furthermore, the studio is keeping other surprises tightly under wraps. According to Bashaar, the most significant challenges and changes in the remasters lie in the art department. This includes real-time lighting effects and the option to switch between old and modernized graphics. Additionally, there is the introduction of new character and enemy models.

As the anticipation builds, Tomb Raider enthusiasts can look forward to an enhanced and captivating journey into Lara Croft’s adventures. This will occur when Tomb Raider I-III Remastered makes its debut on the gaming scene this February.
