Quick Overview of Facts About The Sims 5

  • Genre: Life Simulation
  • Platforms: Expectedly PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Mobile
  • Release: Yet to be announced
  • Developers: Maxis, The Sims Studio
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Current Name: Project Rene

The Sims 5 Officially in Development

A year ago, EA revealed the successor to The Sims 4. However, the next installment in this popular series isn’t initially labeled The Sims 5 but currently goes by the name Project Rene (Source: YouTube).

Two additional “Behind The Sims” livestreams have emerged since then, wherein Maxis and EA shared further glimpses and details about Project Rene. Consequently, five aspects are now firmly known about the next generation.

What Does EA Reveal?

  • Release Timeframe: According to Lyndsay Pearson (VP Creative Director), Project Rene will consume several more years of development time.
  • Enhanced Building: Initial impressions showcase new patterns, materials, modular forms, and the return of the color wheel.
  • Multiplayer: Inviting friends to play alongside you will be possible. However, The Sims won’t transform into an MMO; the single-player experience remains the series’ focus.
  • Cross-Progression: Seamlessly continuing your game on other devices will be viable—begin on PC and continue your kitchen project on your phone while commuting.
  • Free-to-Play: The base game will be playable for everyone upon release. Paid additional content won’t involve core mechanics but rather offer thematic expansions.

Should you wish to witness the current state of the game, the last livestream is available in its entirety on YouTube.

When Will The Sims 5 Be Released?

The most burning question revolves around The Sims 5’s release date. Despite Project Rene’s announcement, EA and Maxis largely maintain silence, causing impatience among fans as The Sims 4 hits its 9th year.

EA’s statements hint that The Sims 5 might take quite a while longer. The ongoing roadmap for The Sims 4 reveals that Maxis has much in store for the current installment, and expansions continue to sell remarkably well.

A release before the end of 2025 appears highly improbable.

Which Platforms Will The Sims 5 Cover?

Traditionally, the primary game in a series debuts on PC, followed by console releases. The pattern is likely to repeat with The Sims 5, making it expectedly available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

A significant novelty is the integration of mobile devices into the main series. Project Rene aims for seamless playability on smartphones.

Are There Any Trailers for The Sims 5 Yet?

Despite EA showcasing early visuals of the sequel, there’s no standalone trailer yet. Any existing videos are likely fan creations
