There have been numerous rumors and leaks, and now it’s official: Developer Naughty Dog is re-releasing The Last of Us Part 2 for the PS5 – as a Remastered version. For owners of the PS4 version, there’s a particularly attractive offer – yet even that seems to leave the fans indifferent.
The Last of Us Part 2 Comes as a Remaster to PS5
It started with the PS4, and now the PS5 continues the remaster trend: Sony officially announced via a reveal trailer that developer studio Naughty Dog is working on a Remastered version of The Last of Us Part 2. Ellie’s and Abby’s bloody adventure will be revamped for the PS5.

According to the trailer, the game won’t only be technically improved. Fans can also expect several new additions to the content. There will be new outfits for Ellie and Abby, some new playable areas not included in the PS4 version, and “No Return,” a roguelike survival mode where you have to survive against incoming human enemies and infected for as long as possible.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is set to release on January 19, 2024, but pre-orders can be made starting from December 5, 2023. For owners of the PS4 version, Sony offers an attractive upgrade deal, similar to what some PS5 owners might already know from Marvel’s Spider-Man: If you have The Last of Us 2 on disc or digitally for the PS4, you can upgrade to the PS5 version for $10.
Fans Mock the PS5 Remaster
In the comments under the announcement trailer, fans are mocking the PS5 version. Most simply believe that The Last of Us Part 2 doesn’t need a remastered version yet. After all, the PS4 hit was released just about three years ago and set completely new graphical standards on the last-gen console. Accordingly, there are a few snide messages under the YouTube video:
“Spider-Man 2 is already pretty old. I hope Sony releases a remaster by the end of the year.” – radicalcentrist4990
“I remember playing this game back in 1983 when it came out. I’m so glad they’re giving it the remaster it deserves.” – that_guy55
“That brings back memories of how, as a little girl during the war, I used to run home from school to play on my grandfather’s PlayStation 1.” – stevenbelcher5658
The YouTube ratings also paint a clear picture: 65k likes compared to 98k dislikes (Source: YouTube via Return YouTube Dislike). However, we doubt whether this will also translate into rather modest sales figures. We’ll keep you updated.
