Netflix may be bringing a game from the GTA (Grand Theft Auto) series to its platform. According to The Wall Street Journal, the company is on the verge of partnering with Take-Two, the owner of the Rockstar Games production company, with this goal in mind. However, there is still no information on whether the partnership with the streaming giant means a new and exclusive GTA or the release of a mobile adaptation of titles such as GTA 5, and GTA: San Andreas, among others. It’s worth noting that this news does not involve a live-action adaptation of the game series. See more details below.

Netflix offers a catalogue of games for download on Android and iPhone (iOS) through its streaming app. The service comes at no additional cost and provides titles like Spiritfarer, Oxenfree, Relic Hunters Zero, TMNT Shredder’s Revenge, Samurai Showdown, Tomb Raider Reloaded, and more.

The platform’s game service has been available since November 2022, but it has gained little attention among gamers, despite featuring some commercially popular titles using famous brands from the platform itself, such as Stranger Things. Nonetheless, it currently requires a mobile device to play. In the future, the plan is to enable game streaming on TVs or computers.

With GTA, the landscape could potentially change, according to the report, although details about the potential partnership between the red streaming service and Take-Two or Rockstar have not been disclosed yet. According to the newspaper, the contract will be a mere licensing commercial agreement and not a production one, meaning that Netflix itself would not be involved in development.

Furthermore, The Wall Street Journal reports that the company also wants to release other games from its brands on the app, such as Round 6, Wandinha, Resgate, and Black Mirror. These games are developed by Netflix in partnership with other studios. Details about these and other titles are expected to be revealed in the coming months, but there is still no release date.
