Ulefone, known for its outdoor and big-battery smartphones, introduced its first rugged tablet last year, the Armor Pad. Outdoor enthusiasts have eagerly awaited its successor, the Ulefone Armor Pad 2, which is set to debut on October 16th. In the following announcement, we provide an overview of the noteworthy features and technical details of this new outdoor tablet.

Design & Display: The tablet is unmistakably designed for outdoor use, featuring a distinctive frame, protective bumpers on the corners and sides, and a hand strap on the back. Additionally, a large LED is mounted on the rear. The tablet is available in two colour variants and measures 277.8 x 178 x 14 millimetres, weighing a substantial 1,018 grams. It’s not lightweight. Like its predecessor, the Armor Pad 2 is expected to be protected against water, dust, and strong impacts thanks to its IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD-810H certifications. Ulefone claims it can withstand up to 30 minutes in water at a depth of 1.5 meters.

At the bottom of the device, you’ll find a headphone jack, microphone, speaker, and a USB-C (2.0) charging port. The top side houses a second speaker and a SIM slot that also accommodates a microSD memory card. Additionally, the power button with an integrated fingerprint sensor and a configurable button are located on the right side. The left side features the volume rocker and, like its predecessor, the uSmart port, which allows connectivity with external microscopes or endoscopes, making it interesting for certain fields.

For operation, the Armor Pad 2 utilizes an 11-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2,000 x 1,200 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 213 pixels per inch. Ulefone specifies a maximum peak brightness of 500 lux. Whether the display will deliver the “stunning visual experience” promised by the manufacturer can only be confirmed through device testing.

Performance & Hardware: The tablet is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 processor with 8 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. The processor is manufactured using a 6nm process. Along with the ARM Mali-G57 MC2 as the graphics unit, it should handle demanding tasks and even high-resolution gaming with ease. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, expandable by up to 2TB using a microSD memory card. The upper mid-range processor and graphics unit suggest good performance. It’s worth noting that the manufacturer officially advertises up to 16GB of RAM, which includes 8GB of built-in RAM and 8GB of “virtual” RAM. The device runs on Android 13.

Main & Front Cameras: The Armor Pad 2 features a 48-megapixel main camera and a 16-megapixel front camera that enables face recognition for unlocking. It also offers various settings and features such as Night Mode, Panorama, or Slow-Motion video recording.

Battery & Battery Life: The tablet boasts an impressive 18,600mAh battery that the manufacturer claims provides a week of usage. However, the exact conditions for this battery test conducted in the Ulefone lab are not clearly defined. It also has a standby time of 860 hours. Additionally, the Armor Pad 2 supports Reverse Charging, allowing it to charge other mobile devices on the go. With a 33-watt fast charger, the device should quickly become operational again.

Connectivity & Sensors: The Armor Pad 2 supports 5G for mobile connectivity and uses Wi-Fi 6 for wireless network connections. It employs Bluetooth 5.2 for connecting to other devices and wireless data transfer and also includes NFC support. The tablet features stereo speakers, although their audio quality remains to be tested. In addition to the standard sensors, such as brightness, acceleration, and proximity sensors, it is equipped with an E-Compass. Location services are supported through GPS/GLONASS/BeiDou/Galileo.

Our Assessment, Price & Availability: Ulefone claims that the Armor Pad 2 will become the new flagship in the world of outdoor tablets, offering durability, impressive performance, and high versatility. However, its real-world performance remains to be seen. Starting on October 16th, the Armor Pad 2 will be available on AliExpress for approximately $USD 254. Most Ulefone products have eventually become available on Amazon. Considering the features offered, $254 USD, including tax, seems fair, but it’s advisable to await comprehensive reviews before making a final decision.
