WhatsApp is testing improved community management by administrators. According to reports from the WABetaInfo portal regarding the latest beta version of the app, developers are working to enhance the control and management options for these groups by administrators.

Enhanced Member Control in Android Version 2.23.18.20

Specifically, in Android version 2.23.18.20, the ability to limit the direct addition of new members only to administrators has been implemented. Until now, anyone who was part of a community could add other users simply by using the invite link generated by the administrators. With this new feature, the process is protected and reserved only for those who administer the group.

This represents an additional level of control and moderation, likely conceived by WhatsApp to prevent overcrowding or spam cases. Communities were introduced a few months ago to bring together large groups with common interests, so having effective tools to manage this complexity is crucial

Gradual Rollout of Member Limitation Option – Improved Community Management

The option to limit member additions is currently available only to some users who have installed the latest beta versions of WhatsApp for Android. The implementation will continue in the coming weeks and will also arrive on iOS and desktop operating systems.

Previously, in one of the earlier updates, administrators gained the ability to choose which groups to include in their community, another valuable moderation tool. New options for ad management were also added, allowing them to be selectively directed to specific subgroups.

WhatsApp is heavily investing in communities as a tool to make the chat experience more similar to social networks, capturing new segments of users.
