Spotify has announced a collaboration with the platform Patreon, which will allow its subscribers to access exclusive content on the music streaming service.
The common practice until now has been that exclusive podcasts have been published within the Patreon app itself, and RSS technology has also been used in practice. However, Spotify has not supported the RSS standard so far to facilitate private content exchange with external services like Patreon. Therefore, a custom solution called Spotify Open Access has been developed. This allows integration with Patreon for the first time.
Integration Loved By Fans And Content Creators
Integration is being loved by both fans and creators where fans will have access to more content and creators will get extra reach for their creativity. This could prove particularly useful for special podcast content that isn’t available to everyone, but only to Patreon subscribers. It’s not new that content creators use Patreon to earn from their followers by creating content exclusively available to them. However, this content is generally not as explicit as it is on OnlyFans.
The new solution will also be available for other services like Memberful, Supercast, Supporting Cast, and others, but Patreon is the most prominent brand. For those who don’t have a special subscription, the content on Spotify will appear as locked with a padlock icon. Thus, it will serve as a visual indication that access can be gained by starting to pay the Patreon subscription fee.
Recently Spotify has launched Spotify DJ for music lovers which provides an even more personalized music listening experience.
